Hughes Exploration company hits gold while drilling for copper, nickel
More drilling is scheduled

Timmins and gold are synonymous with one another but no matter how many times the precious metal has been discovered in Northern Ontario, it's still exciting for those who find it.
The Hughes Exploration Group's local company called Amador Gold Corp. was recently drilling for nickel and copper on their Loveland property roughly 35-kilometres northwest of Timmins when they made yet another find.
"Low and behold, one of the holes went a little further than normal into a contact and we got into a granite and we sampled that and we put out a news release showing what the gold values are," Hughes Exploration Group president Richard Hughes said.
"It's parallel to the copper-nickel but right beside it just a little further on in the depth of the hole. We not only have copper-nickel but this gold zone and it was mostly by accident."
About 175 metres is the defined nickel-copper mineralization zone that runs 400 metres vertically below the surface.
Three zones have been identified and more additional testing is scheduled for the gold discovery alongside plans to expand the nickel-copper zone.
More drilling is scheduled sometime in January.
Golden Chalice Resources Inc., another Hughes Exploration Group company, is located 35 kilometres south of Timmins and nickel drilling has been taking place for over a year.
The Langmuir project, Hughes explained, is one that will continue on with many more zones to tackle.
"It's a really solid project," he said. "We'd like to be drilling in January or February next year."
The property itself spans more than 40 kilometres which houses ideal rocks for nickel mineralization.
"Another one of real interest is the Abitibi East," Hughes explained. "We're looking for another Kidd Creek-type project. We're on the same rock horizon as the Kidd Creek with the same age dating on the rock. There will be a news release coming out this week."
About an hour's drive west of Timmins is the Radio Hill project which is proving to be a good resource of iron.
"We're talking to countries outside of Canada as a possible joint venture partner," Hughes said. "It's still in the ground but it's got quite a high value to it as far as grade and the tonnage implication."
These are only a few of the examples of prospective projects with Hughes Exploration Group.
"There are a lot of emerging economies in China and the so-called emerging middle-class and this is healing a lot of the exploration initiatives within North America and makes places like Timmins extremely attractive," Hughes Exploration Group regional manager Peter Caldbick said.
"Even though commodity prices are low now, we suspect they'll be in demand again which will make them far more economic. It's exciting there's no doubt about that."
