You are absolutely right . That seems to be the BIG PALN of companies like Newmont , Barrick etc.
Let K lowball ARU & get ARU for cheap . The SP of K will go down as a result of the dilution..then take out K with either a hostile or friendly take over.
Why get into a bidding war with K & drive up the price of ARU when you can get ARU for much cheaper than that after taking out Kinross , which will takeout ARU.
This kind of reminds me of the picture I used to see in Kindergarten where the Big Fish is eating the Small Fish which is eating an even smaller fish ..sad but so true.
Green Fish : ARU
Red Fish : Kinross
Yellow Fish : Barrick ?? Newmont ??..You get the Idea.
