Message: Maersk Discoverer booked for up to two wells offshore Guyana

Offshore staff

LYNGBY, Denmark – CGX Resources and Frontera Energy have contracted Maersk Drilling’s semisubmersible Maersk Discoverer for exploration drilling offshore Guyana.

The 75-85-day contract is set to start during 3Q, and covers one firm well in the Corentyne block and an optional well for the Demerara block (the latter with an estimated duration of 40 days.).

Further services and performance incentives could be added to the work scope. Maersk Drilling COO Morten Kelstrup said: “The D-rig series is particularly well suited to fill special niches around the Americas with its versatile capabilities of both being able to work in a moored and a dynamically-positioned mode.

“With this contract, Maersk Discoverer is fully booked throughout 2021 allowing us to continue to build and leverage the experience of the crew as well as the special technical characteristics of the rig.”

The DSS-21 column-stabilized DP rig is currently operating offshore Trinidad and Tobago for bp.

Following the assignment with CGX, it will start another contract with Shell subsidiary BG International offshore Trinidad and Tobago.
