VANCOUVER, BC - As the world's best athletes set their sights on Vancouver and Whistler in 2010, the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) will also be striving to be at the top of its game as it prepares to host athletes, officials, spectators and media from around the world in 2010 - and one of Canada's most popular cold and flu medicines - COLD-FX(R) - will be there to help.

Dave Cobb, VANOC's executive vice-president, revenue, marketing and communications, and Dr. Jacqueline Shan, president and chief scientific officer of CV Technologies Inc., the maker of COLD-FX, joined Olympian Clara Hughes today at the Richmond Olympic Oval to announce COLD-FX as Official Supplier in the category of cold and flu remedies for the 2010 Winter Games.

"COLD-FX is a Canadian success story that has taken great strides in keeping high-performance athletes healthy during their demanding competitive seasons," said Cobb. "We are pleased to partner with this leading Canadian company and we welcome them into the Vancouver 2010 family as we prepare to host the world."

"CV Technologies has done praiseworthy and unique research in the field of cold and flu medicines, and the result is a Health Canada-approved, leading natural product with excellent quality standards," said VANOC chief medical officer, Dr. Jack Taunton. "It's of the utmost importance that our workforce team stays at the top of our game in what will be an exciting and demanding 13 months as we prepare to host the world, and COLD-FX will help us do that."

COLD-FX's four-year Official Supplier partnership with VANOC provides sponsorship rights for the 2010 Winter Games. As part of the sponsorship, CV Technologies Inc. will make a financial investment in the Games and will also provide COLD-FX to VANOC for its use. During the 2010 Winter Games, COLD-FX will be available at general stores within the Olympic and Paralympic Villages in Vancouver and Whistler. COLD-FX will also serve as Official Supplier for the Canadian Olympic Teams competing at the 2010 Winter Games and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"We are proud our product has helped to keep world-class athletes healthy and in peak shape so they can always give 100 per cent in training and competition," said Dr. Shan, co-discoverer of COLD-FX. "We are equally honoured to be chosen as the official cold and flu remedy of the Games and are excited to help stage an Olympic and Paralympic Games in Canada."

Hughes, an Olympic gold medal speed skater and one of only four athletes in the world to win medals at both summer and winter Games, has been using COLD-FX for six years.

"Canadian athletes are all working towards the performance of their lives in 2010, and staying healthy is incredibly important," Hughes said. "As an athlete, you don't want to be beaten by a cold - so we're lucky to have COLD-FX available to us. Many of us count on it as we go for the gold."

Colds and flu are a big concern for competitors, trainers and coaches, as well as Games organizers. Some sports medical experts say the common cold is an ailment that impacts performance among athletes more than all other illnesses combined. COLD-FX, a unique extract from the ginseng root, is marketed as a daily defence against colds and flu by Edmonton-based CV Technologies Inc. It has been approved by Health Canada to help reduce the frequency, severity and duration of cold and flu symptoms by boosting the immune system.

As part of CV Technologies' commitment to the highest standards of quality, COLD-FX is undergoing stringent review through the NSF Athletic Banned Substances Certification Program - the only certification program recognized by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) to minimize the risk to athletes of testing positive for banned substances.
