Someone should tell him "Thanks, but you're 'No David MacDonald'".

I would feel so conflicted if Gomes started buying at MacDonald's pace from long ago. On the one hand, I'd have a hard time resisting the idea that something good was coming down the pike in the near future. 

On the other hand, I spent a lot of money buying shares when MacDonald did, and I'm guessing he's regretted the many intervening years as much as I have? So I'd be reluctant to make that same mistake again.
