La Ronge Gold Belt

posted on Feb 18, 10 01:40PM
Gold Belt

The Gold Belt property is located 75 km northeast of the community of La Ronge, in north-central Saskatchewan, and in the southern portion of the La Ronge Gold Belt, a 150 km zone which is host to several known gold deposits and past-producing mines. These deposits are typically gold-bearing quartz-rich shear zones which can extend to depths of greater than 500 meters.

Killdeer's Gold Belt property is 22,619 hectares in size and covers a number of known zones of gold and base metal mineralization. The property adjoins Golden Band Resources' Bingo property which hosts the Bingo deposit where production is scheduled to begin in 2010. The Bingo deposit hosts a Measured and Indicated Mineral resource of 174,668 tonnes grading 13.14 g/t gold (using a cut-off grade of 5 g/t gold and a diluted minimum width of 2.0 metres), and an additional Inferred Mineral resource of 155,074 tonnes with an average grade of 13.89 g/t gold. Exploration of the Bingo continues with recent deep drilling by Golden Band Resources successfully extending the gold-bearing structure to a total depth of 525 meters.

Gold Zones

Known gold showings on Killdeer's Gold Belt property are quartz-rich shear zones, typical of those in the La Ronge Gold Belt. Two of these showings, the Davidson and Charlie's Change were sampled by Killdeer in 2009 as part of a reconnaissance and evaluation program. Assays from the Davidson showing returned 516.6 g/t gold and 93.4 g/t gold. Assays from the Charlie's Chance showing returned 185.4 g/t gold and 28.5 g/t gold. Previous sampling at these showings by former operators have also shown good gold values over widths ranging from 1.5 to 3 meters. Neither the Davidson of the Charlie's Chance showings have ever been drill tested.

Other zones of known gold mineralization on the Gold Belt include the Ewan and Vidgy showings. Samples to 10.9 g/t gold are reported from surface samples at the Ewan showing. Trenching at the Vidgy showing in the late 1980s by a previous operator exposed a 1 to 2.5 meter wide shear zone, with representative chip samples from the trenches grading 9.2 g/t gold over 2.0 meters and 6.2 g/t gold over 2.5 meters. Elevated gold values were returned from limited drilling at both showings by previous operators.

Platinum Group - Base Metals Potential

In addition to the gold potential, the Gold Belt property is prospective for magmatic copper-nickel-PGE (platinum-group) mineralization. MacDonald Mines is actively exploring for platinum-group mineralization on their Nielsen-Chisholm property located 4 km southwest of the Gold Belt property. The property also covers the Triangle Lake magmatic Cu-Ni occurrence within the Bassett Lake layered ultramafic complex, as well as known copper-nickel (+/- gold) occurrences near Nipew Lake.

2010 Exploration

Beginning in 2010, Killdeer will begin advanced exploration of the Gold Belt property based on the reconnaissance work completed in 2009, as well as historic trenching and drilling data from previous operators. The 2010 program will include an airborne geophysical (VTEM) survey, extensive prospecting, and diamond drilling.
