Friccing Fracing at Óföldeák

Óföldeák – according to Canadian investors, gas explorers are very busy conducting rock fracturing operation and testing in the thousands of meters rocks under Óföldeák. Whether the current expectations are confirmed, it will be dependent on the results of these operations. The TXM Kft director confirmed the news. The details are more interesting - although not yet publicized.

"I would like to draw your attention to the fact, that according to our information, serious work is being done on the gas well at Óföldeák, rock fracturing, etc.. Basically, results of these operations will decide whether it will be worthwhile to continue the work" - John Szekeres informed me the other day in his e-mail. This Orosháza-born man, living in Canada for 42 years, is one of the hundreds of small investors, who are following the gas explorations in the Mako-trough on daily basis. They have invested millions of dollars in this venture, and although most of them are amateurs, in the hope for profit, they bend together on forum boards to share research and news among themselves so they can better understand their investment. When there is no news, they inquire – often gleaning information from our web pages the Delmagyar.hu, or send inquiries to Falcon’s management, the company that started this project. Just a few days ago, the Director of Falcon Oil, Marc Bruner released an official announcement, reporting the start of fracing and testing operations at Óföldeák by ExxonMobil and MOL, this work is part of the mutually agreed Initial Work Program.

–“Truly, this is exactly what we are doing, just as we promised it previously” - answered to our question György Szabó director of the Hungarian subsidiary of Falcon Oil and TXM Kft. He added: - “The fracing operation is not an unusual process, it is a well-known procedure in Hungary for almost forty years, and indeed after these operations we will find out whether the results will agree with our information and calculations connected to this resource. But, do not let yourself imagine that all we have to do is just fracture the rock, and we should start to throw our hats into the sky in celebration. Long-term work will be facing us, the details are very interesting for the professionals, though these details not yet publicized. However, when we arrive to a new station, and worth to talk about it, then we will be reporting it” – said the director.

The required equipment that was necessary for the fracing operation at the Óföldeák-1 site, came from the MOL led the research area. However, TXM and MOL do not report to each other on everything - we hear it from György Szabó. There is an explanation for this: There are three companies doing research in different parts of the Mako-trough, 6000 meters deep according to the news.

So far, this much we know

MOL and ExxonMobil owns 40-40 percent, while Falcon owns 20 percent interest in the extracted energy. According to plans, the exploitation of the1000-1500 billion cubic meter of gas will begin in 2012 with an output of 10 billion cubic meters, and thousands of people employed. The Hungarian state will benefit from the12 percent mining royalties and tax revenues. The technology that is being used has been in use in the United States since 2005, where one-third of the domestic production is produced by this technology.
