| VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 12, 2009) - Editors Note: A photo is included with this press release. Far West Mining Ltd. (TSX:FWM) is deeply saddened to announce the death of company director, Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman, former Chairman and, together with R. E. (Bob) Hindson, a cofounder of the company. Mr. Seaman has been instrumental in raising capital and guiding the company's affairs since its inception in 1994. Mr. Seaman was prominent in the Canadian oil and gas industry and, with his two brothers, founded Bow Valley Industries in 1949. He was Chairman and President of Dox Investments Inc. as well as a director of a number of public companies besides Far West. He was a contributor to many philanthropic ventures and was an active supporter of several charities and community projects. Mr. Seaman graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering. He received honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Calgary, the Alberta Order of Excellence, and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. He and a group of Calgary businessmen were responsible for moving the Atlanta NHL hockey franchise to Calgary. Mr. Seaman was also the recipient of many, many other awards and the remarkable story of his life can be found in his recent biography "Staying in the Game" written by Sydney Sharpe in collaboration with Rod Blair.
