GlobeStar Announces Appointment of Eric Olson as Chief Operating Officer

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 23, 2009) - GlobeStar Mining Corporation ("GlobeStar") (TSX:GMI) is pleased to announce the appointment of A. Eric Olson, MAusIMM, as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer effective January 21, 2009. Eric joined the GlobeStar team in 2006 and has been instrumental in bringing the Cerro de Maimon copper-gold-silver mine into production essentially on time and on budget with Commercial Production declared, as previously reported, as of January 1, 2009.

Eric is a mining engineer registered with the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and has over 25 years of progressively increasing responsibilities in the mining industry, including positions in operations, management, corporate development and marketing. He is a Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101 who has supervised the preparation and verification of most of the technical information related to the Cerro de Maimon mine. Eric will be assuming responsibility for the leadership and management of GlobeStar's mining operation as well as any new development or mining opportunities while reporting to GlobeStar's Chief Executive Officer.

The former Chief Operating Officer, Jean-Pierre (JP) Chauvin, P. Eng., has retired and GlobeStar would like to thank JP for his contributions to GlobeStar's success during the past three years.

GlobeStar is also pleased to announce that Dave Massola, GlobeStar's current Chief Financial Officer, will also assume the position of Senior Vice President Finance in recognition of his financial leadership during the past three years. Dave will report to GlobeStar's Chief Executive Officer.
