IMO, there are several reasons that we are drilling across veins, rather than following them down and deep.

1) Drilling down a vein doesn't mean that you will accurately follow that vein if it veers, sheers or narrows at depth.

2) This is a big property, and drilling down on every vein, it will take a lot longer to find all the veins that have gold.

3) Drilling is expensive. Our current method samples many of the suspected veins using a single hole, without having a lot of clear cutting of the forests and levelling of grounds. With one hole, we are hitting 2-4 veins at once.

At this point, we are just trying to determine where the strongest indication of gold exists. Since open pit is the fastest and cheapest method, finding multiple veins, close to surface, will provide more economical ore in the near future. After the easy stuff is recovered, they can start to chase the veins underground.
