We all know how terrible the lending market has become. We also know that solvent banks have to lend to someone.

I was just thinking that the power situation in South Africa is not likely to change anytime soon ie problems will likely persist for years until infrastructure is updated. So it would seem unlikely that Investec would be willing to invest in projects at home even if they are economic. They would therefore be more inclined to go abroad to somewhere like... Brazil.
