Mr. Robin Ross reports
MANTIS MINERALS ANNOUNCES ORPHAN DIAMOND DRILL PROGRAM
Mantis Mineral Corp. has secured Norquest Drilling Ltd. of North Bay, Ont., to undertake a diamond drill program of Mantis's 100-per-cent-owned Orphan gold mine property, to commence on April 15. A total of 3,000 metres of diamond drilling are planned for this site, to test the Orphan gold vein below its known current depth of 250 feet. The northwest strike extension at this depth and beyond the mine workings will also be tested. The Orphan Main vein was mined briefly in the 1930s and initially produced 3,525 tons of ore, grading 0.689 ounce per ton gold. Historical records indicate that minimal mining was done in two very small stopes, leaving behind substantial ore.
In addition, approximately 2,000 m have been earmarked to test the Foisey vein located 1,700 m to the northwest. The Fosey vein is known to have a minimum strike length of 1,000 m and has returned gold results of up to 0.62 ounce per ton (see news in Stockwatch on Jan. 7, 2008).
The Fosiey vein system and the Orphan mine vein system occur in a geological setting similar to Kodiak Exploration Ltd.'s Golden Mile Hercules project, located 9.5 kilometres directly to the west, where extremely high gold values over extensive widths have been recently reported. To this end, Mantis commissioned JVX Ltd. to undertake an induced polarization survey, as well as a ground magnetometer survey, for which the results are pending.
Both these surveys will assist with drill hole spotting of target selections within the vein systems. The magnetometer survey will be used to contribute to defining the all-important contact between the Kaby Lake stock and the surrounding volcanic rocks. This contact zone is believed to be significant, as structural zones hosting gold-bearing veins may be associated with it. As at the Golden Mile, these structural zones may be associated with magnetic highs relating to late gabbro bodies.
Walter Hanych, Mantis's senior geologist, commented: "In a very short period of time, Mantis has confirmed the gold potential of the Foisey and Orphan mine vein systems. We feel very confident that this diamond drill program will advance the property significantly."
