Earth Day Message from NaiKun Wind

Earth Day Message from NaiKun Wind
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 22, 2009) - NaiKun Wind Energy Group Inc. (TSX VENTURE:NKW) -

As people around the world acknowledge Earth Day this year, it provides an opportunity to remind British Columbians that the NaiKun Wind project continues moving steadily toward realization.

NaiKun Wind Energy Group Inc. ("NaiKun Wind") is developing Canada's first offshore wind energy project, to be built in Hecate Strait, off B.C.'s northwest coast.

"Earth Day reminds us all of the reason for the NaiKun Wind project," said Paul Taylor, NaiKun Wind's President and CEO.

"The NaiKun Wind project is not just about producing power to meet British Columbia's growing demand for electricity, it's also about doing it in a way that leaves the earth in better shape than it was before the project."

NaiKun Wind's 396 MW energy project will harness the power of the strong winds in Hecate Strait using up to 110 turbines installed several kilometers off the eastern shore of Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands). Wind energy is one of the cleanest, most abundant and cost-effective resources that can be used to generate power.

"The NaiKun Wind project will provide enough clean, renewable energy to meet the electricity needs of 130,000 B.C. homes, equal to every home in the province north of Quesnel," said Taylor. "The project will help the province meet its targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions as well as the goal of electricity self-sufficiency."

The project will also deliver important local benefits. In addition to creating good local jobs, the project will support economic development on Haida Gwaii and eliminate the islands' reliance on diesel generators for electricity, thus displacing 26,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions on the islands each year. The project will also provide benefits to the local economies in Prince Rupert and the surrounding area.

A September 2008 survey conducted for NaiKun Wind by the Mustel Group indicated that 73 per cent of British Columbians support the project.

NaiKun Wind is committed to working in partnership with local First Nations and collaboratively with stakeholder groups and local communities in the development of its project. Additional information is available at www.naikun.ca.
