This is the latest from Doug:

Good morning! The following release went out this morning and provides a general update to what our expectations are for 2009, given the unfortunate state of our economy. While demand for our products remains strong, we are seeing a slowdown in the time it takes to get deals done. The cycle from sale to production has been extended as credit policies have tightened. It’s harder for customers to finance a purchase, and harder for us to get parts from vendors. 2008 was such a very successful year for Nighthawk, and we ended the year completing orders in a timely fashion, pushing product out the door right up to December 31, 2008. We started 2009 with a decent backlog of orders, but those orders and new orders are taking longer to complete as lead times have been extended by parts suppliers and the customers themselves are cautious about committing funds for purchases. Capital is scarce in all sections of our market. As a result, I don’t expect the first half of the year to compare favorably with the first half of last year, when we were literally catching up with pent up demand. However, I do expect great things for Nighthawk in 2009, and our goal remains positive cash flow before year end. While the economy will play a role in meeting that goal, I believe we are doing good things to produce better results. As the release states, we are in testing stages with several new customers within the hospitality industry with our set top boxes, and we are also testing with companies outside of the hospitality industry that require our set top box technology. Our results last year were driven primarily from sales to one customer, Guest-tek. I expect to produce revenues from sales of set top boxes to additional customers in 2009, and before the end of 2009 this should offset any slowdowns in the market for set top boxes. We also expect great things from our relationship with Itron in 2009. They have already started pulling Nighthawk into bids with electric utilities, giving us greater exposure in the market as only they can do. We have new products to offer the utilities this year, and regulatory requirements should keep driving utilities to purchase new products. I expect sales to electric utilities to gain momentum throughout the year in 2009. I look forward to sharing additional news with you as things develop!

Have a great week!

Doug

Nighthawk Systems Discusses Expectations For 2009

SAN ANTONIO, TX – 2/24/09 - Nighthawk Systems, Inc. (OTC BB: NIHK) CEO H. Douglas Saathoff issued a statement today discussing expectations for the Company in light of current economic conditions. Nighthawk Systems is a leading provider of wireless and IP-based control devices and solutions, with a primary focus on power control devices for the electric utility industry and high definition set top boxes in the hospitality industry.

Mr. Saathoff commented, “As I stated just over a month ago, we are coming off the strongest year ever for the Company. With our set top box business fully integrated into the Company, we produced record revenues during 2008 and enhanced our margins as well. Based on feedback from existing customers and prospective customers, we expect to see further growth in 2009, and positive cash flow remains a realistic goal of the Company for this year. However, I expect revenues for the first half of the year to decline in comparison to last year as we deal with the effects of the current economic downturn. Although interest in our products remains strong, customers are acting more slowly and cautiously, and production cycles are getting longer as everyone deals with a tighter credit environment. Capital sources are strained and acting more slowly than normal.”

Mr. Saathoff continued, “In spite of the economy, the reasons for optimism at Nighthawk are many, and the results from 2008 have us better prepared for the road that lies ahead. A growing customer base, new products and better sales channels should lead to growth in the second half of 2009. We have been working with several new companies within the hospitality market, integrating our set top boxes into their systems, and with several new customers outside of the hospitality industry as well. New relationships should supplement existing order flow for set top boxes in the latter half of 2009. Demand for money-saving devices should increase in this economy, and spending on smart grid devices should increase due to government incentives and regulatory requirements. These factors, combined with our new relationship with Itron and the introduction of new products into the market, should lead to growth in sales of power control devices in the utility industry during the latter half of 2009.”
