James Bay Lowlands - Last Spring

The Attawapiskat River winds through the James Bay Lowlands on March 26th

Aerial view of Billiken Base Camp at McFauld's Lake. Looking east on March 26, 2008.

Banks of drill core racks stand out from the tents at McFauld's Lake base camp. A turboprop Caravan sits on the ice landing strip.

At base camp, the office (left) differs from the bunk tents only on theinside, where there is a desk to accompany the project manager's bunk.

Brian Newton, Mike Peplinski and Neil Novak stand by a key claim post on the north shore of McFauld's Lake, erected in the 2002 staking rush. Newton is coowner of Billiken Management, Peplinski owns Greenstone Exploration (he planted the post)

The Johnny Cash rests on two cross-hatched tiers of heavy square timbers in turn sitting on tree trunks. If the rig were sitting on the frozen ground, the heat and vibration generated by the rig would cause it to sink.

Geologists Carl Archibald and Russell Crosby discuss the core just retrieved. Inside the drill rig, the racket impedes conversation.

Inside the drill rig, Russell Crosby, P.Geo., examines the latest core pulled from a depth of 189 metres.
