Edgy, Thanks for your listing of the major projects that were announced for federal infrastructure funding. I am sure that these projects were necessary maintenance and upgrades. One will note that all except one are within 100kms of our southern border. The powers to be are well aware of where their votes come from. Governments ,as well, are always playing catch up due to the lack of long term planning. These announced projects supply good paying jobs likely for the next 2 to 3 years and will thus more likely to be remembered at the next election day. I think in the case of the "Ring of Fire" area that they are realizing the long term benefits for tax revenues as well as job creation for many first nations peoples. As far as capital for many projects, including opening up the north, you will find that most infrastructure projects are multilevel in nature. Partnering to maximize capital imputs is the way things seem to operate. I think what will transpire is that transportation infrastructure will become a combined effort of Federal, Provincial, and municipal governments as well as infusion from industry ( Cliffs, Baosteel, NOT et al). They, I believe, are still in the discussion phase of who will imput what and how much. The whole plan has not yet been fully thought through. As we all are well aware, the wheels of government turn very slowly. (About as fast as molasses at the NOT camp in January). I forsee more project announcements when we see what the spring budgets have in store. I can't believe there will not some funding initiatives once everyone is on board. the deputy
