So Noront is looking for someone good at promoting? Good at Raising money?
Robert Friedland is perhaps interested. On Apr 18, 2012 – Friedland resigns as CEO from Ivanhoe Mines in Rio Tinto shake-up. He's on the board of Ivanplats not the CEO. Does he have some time? Does he want a challenge? There was standing room only at his presentation at PDAC. I wonder if Noront said "hello."
If you recall Robert Friedland showed interest in Noront's discovery in 2007. (posted at end of this post)
At mining conferences, Robert Friedland is the equivalent of a rock star. So it came as no surprise that it was standing room only for his talk on Monday afternoon. Of course, he did not disappoint.
Mr. Friedland was there to talk about Ivanplats Ltd. and its three projects, a platinum deposit in South Africa and two copper projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo. To say that he is bullish on these projects would be an understatement. By his measure, they are simply the three best projects of their kind in the entire world.
He compared the Platreef project in South Africa to Bre-X’s infamous Busang project, noting that it has “the added advantage of being real.” He then called the Kamoa project the richest copper discovery in the world.
“We’ll be mining 4% copper until the cows come home. There’s no copper mine like it on this particular planet,” he said.
And he said the Kipushi mine, a past-producing property, was the richest copper mine in the world and has tremendous upside today. He noted that it can also produce a great deal of zinc, which he feels will become increasingly crucial for its use as fertilizer in the coming years.
“This thing is a wonder of nature and nobody has done any geophysics,” he added.
Mr. Friedland noted his team’s track record in getting the Oyu Tolgoi mine built in Mongolia, and expressed complete confidence that they can do it again with these three projects. He added that Ivanplats team is “scheming” to try to get the share price up. It has struggled since last year’s initial public offering.
“We are the largest junior mining company in the world,” he said.
