Proposal for a "Newcomer's FAQ" for this hub

posted on Oct 24, 09 08:41PM

Fellow Noront hub members:

We've seen (and hopefully will continue to see) new posters coming to this hub and asking questions occasionally that some longer-term posters consider to be meriting of a contemptuous response. Sometimes the questions are posed in a manner that could either be honest, or an attempt to "stir the pot" and waste time and space to divert attention from a important events.

I think that we can help ourselves and the genuine newcomers by putting together a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) and ask Agoracom to add a link to it in a prominent location on the hub (I suggest somewhere in the righthand panel near the "President's DD" section). If a newcomer has a question that is answered in the FAQ, the response can simply be, "go read the FAQ". If they choose not to, well that tells us something about their intent, and they can be dealt with accordingly. For the genuinely-interested newcomer, the FAQ would help "get them up-to-speed" on their own time and would hopefully allow them to more quickly become better contributors.

There is much history that is simply not known by newcomers and would really take a *ton* of digging on their part to even *try* to piece together what happened during the proxy fight, for example. So here's what I am proposing as the main items:

  1. date of last update (freshness gauge)
  2. brief corporate history (timeline from inception, with discoveries and significant events)
  3. composition of corporate officers and BoD, terms of office, with options granted, grant price, and exercise/expiration dates. Chronological, oldest first.
  4. significant discoveries/geology , again chronological, but perhaps newest first.
  5. locations of other information (President's DD, Sedar, official company site)
  6. ettiquette (Agoracom's 6 rules, Zero Tolerance, no posting of PM's, etc.)
  7. analysts coverage (I was asked about this in a PM)
  8. specific questions and considered answers not covered above

One downside is that someone or some group would need to maintain the FAQ; time does not stand still. I believe that the effort will be well worth it, in terms of reducing board clutter, helping newcomers who are truly interested in the company, and weeding out obvious s***-disturbers. I consider my own efforts volunteered :-)

I am sure that I am missing useful items here, and that the ordering I proposed is a first-pass and will need better prioritization. I'd like to get input (in the form of thumbs) regarding whether this idea has any merit at all.

Please contribute any ideas of what *you* would find useful/helpful (both newcomers and long-time participants) by responding to this thread.

  • Long-term participants- what questions are you most frequently asked? Irk you the most?
  • Newcomers- what obvious information would be most helpful (other than an obvious FAQ link)?

TIA (Thanks In Advance),
