Message: Surprised by performance

Just had a phone call with Robert and Subhash regarding my questions concerning the latest news release.

The most important point is that the POET folks themselves where surprised about the detector's performance. I mean, they expected good results, but the actual results exceeded their expectations by far.

With such unexpected and superior characteristics, they decided to develop the detector into a separate product – not in place of, but in addition to the integrated VCSEL transceiver.

VCSEL and transistor wafers have also been processed in the fab, meaning the Q1 targets have been met. The last technological hurdle has been taken. POET characterized the detectors first. Characterization of VCSELs and transistors is still ongoing. Subhash said he hasn't the data yet, so he could not say anything about their properties – could take three weeks or so.

He made clear that "the VCSEL is working" would be a non-message, not being worth a news release. However, an optimized functional VCSEL or a functional integrated VCSEL transceiver with superior properties – that would be another story. That's what the team will focus on over the next months.

By the way, and they were not aware of the µ→m conversion problem yet. POET creates the source document of a news release only, and then some service providers do the further processing to publish it on SEDAR and on the news channels. Somewhere down the line the nasty problem has happened. In future they might spell out abbreviations and e.g. write "microwatts" instead of "µW".

Bottom line: With the POET technology, we really, really have something unique and superior. This is marvelous indeed! I have never been as excited and convinced as today, if that is possible.

Okay, POET has their communication problems (without being fully aware of them). They are not quite able to convey their message in a way to make investors better understand what has been achieved and what is going on. However, in the long run this will hopefully improve – and can't overshadow the radiance of the technology anyway.

Here's the superiority of the detector visualized once again, this time in a slightly beautified image:
