Crude oil for March delivery dropped $2.46, or 2.8%, to $86.75 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange in mid-afternoon trading. Earlier it fell to an intraday low of $86.65. Crude is now 13% below its highest level of $100.09 hit earlier this year.
