Smeejohn.............This article does not relate to the same area where Newmont recently got new claims near Plexmar..........Although there are issues with many local communities throughout Peru and Newmont has many, many claims and mines throughout Peru.

This article does not involve the new claims by Newmont around Bolsa and Ecuadorian border.

Hope this helps.

MEM allows Newmont Peru acquire 20 mineral rights on northern border

  • Lima, oct. 22 (ANDINA) .- The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) today authorized the company to Newmont Peru acquire 20 mineral rights located in the border area with Ecuador, in the department of Piura.

The request by Newmont Peru is included in the course of public necessity provisions of the Constitution of Peru, as interest in establishing ownership of the mining law applied transcends private interest, significantly impacting on the welfare of the community.

This exemption aims to achieve the development of border areas, thus increasing the standard of living in the catchment area of mining activities.

The application of Newmont has a favorable opinion of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, which was issued on 14 May this year.

Newmont Peru is a subsidiary of U.S. firm Newmont Mining has the 51.35 percent stake in Minera Yanacocha.
