THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF THE INFORMAL MINING UNIT IS A MULTI-SECTOR
"The informal mining is a multisectoral issue, which is not unique to the Energy and Mines and the solution to this problem arises for good legislation regarding the effective control of inputs and to design a feasible work plan to allow the formalization of this mining, "said Deputy Minister of Mines, Fernando Gala.
Speaking to reporters, said the Gala Soldevilla input control is not a function of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, therefore there should be greater participation of the responsible state.
Regarding the formal mining, Gala said that "we have a portfolio of 35 billion dollars in mining projects, of which 12 billion are already confirmed with investment feasibility studies, including extensions, and other 23 billion of projects are completing their examinations.
"Some things are already given, for example, Peru remains strong macroeconomic, investment grade and we have a great mining potential, but what is missing is to prevent social conflicts," he said.
He said these issues must be worked together, not only the state but also civil society and the mining companies. "We must do all a little intelligence to foresee such conflicts and do not affect the development of responsible mining," he said.
Deputy Fernando Gala said that conflicts are not typical for mining affairs, but by misperceptions fostered by people interested in our country does not arise, and therefore the solution must also involve all those who believe in the investment and not only in this sector.
In elaborating on this point, said that most conflicts occur in companies that have permits, meaning that environmental issues are not, or mining, but by misperceptions of the population, because it thinks the project contaminated, possibly because he was not adequately explained the project.
