Here's a set of pictures you can thumb through that were recently released. This is the alternative to an organized mining environment where companies and locals work together. Illegal mining exploits the poor and destroys the environment, it robs the Peruvian coffers with no taxes being paid.

Humala is going to need to weigh his options when he takes control of the government, in order to implement his programs he's going to need to garner taxes from a large illegal mining contingent, not only legal miners.Part of his campaign was on settling these conflicts, everyone needs a fair shake from international companies to the poorest of the poor. I personally think Humala is up to the challege, the status quo is not an option, he knows there needs to be a middle ground, where a broad spectrum of individuals will benefit from his policies. This administration may be the best thing that ever happened to Plexmar, with Toledo backing Humala the government will be able to pass needed legislation in making a profound change for the better in the mining community.
