its probably a gift. Its a process where the owner of the security gifts it to to the broker in order to remove the security from his portfolio. If the broker is full service the commission fee would be much greater then 33 dollars. In order to claim a capital loss you cant be the owner of record for the security.

I could be wrong, but I did this before.
