EVERYONE loves the feeling of snaring a bargain: the smug sensation of obtaining something for nothing and without the risk of being charged with theft.

As the bear market drags on, more and more shares are trading at close -- or below -- their cash backing. Typically, they're junior resource companies with a promising advanced project but no cash flow.

So it's case of "buy one and get a mine for free". The danger is that management drains the cash on further exploration and that someone else buys the assets on the cheap and enjoys the fruits of these labours.

But that is the name of the game these days and investors should be keen to adapt.
