MHO the word is misleading.

I agree with the post that says it could be 1 share to 20 million shares.

I'd rather read a person state he or she had a small 10,000 share block and sold it instead of someone saying I sold my position!

For that person stating he or she sold the 10,000 share might be allot but for others it might be a kick in the bucket *thus* the mis*use of the word position* in my eyes.

Position
The amount of a security either owns(a long position) or owned (a short position) by an investor or dealer.

Naked Position
A securities position that is not hedged from market risk. Both the potential gain and the potential risk are greater when a position is naked instead of covered (a covered position is hedged from market risk).
