Little Miss Sunshine & Spider Resources

posted on Jun 26, 09 01:49PM

I was reading yesterday the editor's comments in a recent issue MovieMaker magazine. It made me think of Spider Resources and Neil Novak. I quote:

"... the only way for a studio to have a low-cost indie hit like Little Miss Sunshine or Slumdog Millionaire is to take risk.

In this business, having too much caution doesn't get you on top... it's taking chances that pays off. That's how you succeed."

Recently I was chatting with Irish1111. A great woman and friend. We chatted at one point about meeting Neil Novak for lunch, and whether that would be worthwhile.

I mention this now because I believe it would be appropriate for some Toronto based/area SPQ investors to meet and have lunch with Neil. Unfortunately the 2009 AGM - truth be known - did not end well. Old anomalies were raised; old business cards shown around. Sorry folks, this approach isn't going to put any pop into your shares whether you're holding 10K, 100K, or 1000K of shares.

Irish, my dear friend, I would like to suggest that you might ask Neil to lunch, a very modest lunch, perhaps. Invite some of our friends on this forum to contact you to share a luncheon discussion with Neil. Furthermore, I suggest no agenda, hidden or otherwise. Just a discussion.

I'm suggesting all of this because of two things: Neil is not a great speaker and doesn't react well to beligerent people at AGMs; and Neil believes he has the ability to find the 'big one'. However, he's between a rock and a hard place, and I personally think he needs some support by retail shareholders e.g., Hoov, Bernard, and those other great people who attended the 2008 AGM.

Just some thoughts. SPQ. High risk, high reward. We've already got the high risk - I want to know how Neil will get us to the high reward.
