Resources help Toronto stocks jump 100 points

posted on Mar 31, 08 06:44AM

Resources sector is hot right now. Might be a good time to take advantage of the share price and get in again before you miss the boat

TORONTO, March 31 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock market index jumped more than 100 points near the start of the session on Monday, as firm metal and energy shares helped the market recover from steep losses late last week.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 100.25 points, or 0.8 percent, at 13,334.04. This follows a drop of more than 170 points on Friday.

All 10 of the index's main groups rose. The energy group jumped 0.9 percent and the resource-heavy materials group rose 0.3 percent. ($1=$1.02 Canadian) (Reporting by Scott Anderson; Editing by Bernadette Baum)
