Re: GWTW, One More Factoid to Consider When Figuring Explorers That Become Mines:

posted on Nov 18, 09 08:47AM

I respect Doug Casey -in fact I receive his newsletters- but we have to take in consideration what is going on the market in order to qualify his statement:

1- When you own many different mines located in different countries and with different economics (grade, cost, labour....) you pick and choose based on TODAY's criteria which ones you are going to start and the ones you are going to leave unproductive for now.

Between a mine in Venezuela with a average grade of 5g/t and one in Canada with 3g/t you could decide to go with the Canadian instead of Venezuela because of greedy political interference in the later.

2- Many large companies in need of cash have sold their stakes in exploration areas because they wanted to use their cash for immediately more profitable locations and/or refocusing their investments in specific raw materials or countries.... (we have seen companies like Kinross selling their interests in Africa and buying -using their cash- juniors located in South America...)

3- The price of gold is the main factor used to decide to start production -and spending ten of millions of dollars- or not. Many uneconomical underground deposits were never started or were stopped because no money was made. In my research I have seen many mines that were abandonned restarting production with new owners after the price of gold went up... Tyhee is part of the story with the Yellowknife historic deposit.

4- With countries -like China, Russia, India...- being new buyers in a large scale of gold we are going to witness a boom in gold production. China for example is buying all the Chinese production. Russia is doing the same with Russian production. IF the Canadian gvt was smarter they would start doing the same, but.............. Because of these governments involvment in gold mining Doug statement will not be true pretty soon. Any gold deposit will be exploited and this will last for the next 10 years, meaning until a new super currency starts to dominate the world and gold becomes the ennemy of this currency!!! and the cycle will start again....

Lets enjoy the next 10 years ...
