actually, it is much more sophisticated than that. as far as i am concerned, it has become a manipulative tool to either create impression of greater strength or weakness depending on whether the iceberg is on the sell or buy side.

moreover, if you call the exchange, they will turn nominalist philosophers and tell you that icebergs may or may not exist, arguing that only what is visible is real (thus turning nominalism to positivism). there is no way of telling the iceberg's true size. it can be very large to small but that it is not possible to know is part of its performative function; its power rests in its ability to project strength or weakness which may have no actual basis in true strength or weakness.
