NEWS - U.S. court dismisses Star's lawsuit against AeroMechanical Services Ltd.

posted on Apr 09, 08 11:34AM

CALGARY, April 9 - AeroMechanical Services Ltd. ("AMA"), a leading service provider of aircraft health performance monitoring systems, announced today that the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California (the "U.S. District Court") has dismissed Star Navigation Systems Group's ("Star") patent infringement lawsuit against AMA on the grounds that Star did not have the legal standing to file this suit.

In September 2007, Star sued AMA for infringement of U.S. Patent No. 7,113,852. The patent's inventors and owners - Hilary Viera and Viraf Kapadia - were not named as co-plaintiffs in the patent infringement lawsuit against AMA. AMA accordingly moved to dismiss Star's complaint on the basis that Star lacked legal standing to file this suit by itself against AMA. The U.S. District Court agreed with AMA and has dismissed the complaint without prejudice. The U.S. District Court has given Star until April 30, 2008 to amend its complaint - if it is able to join Messrs. Viera and Kapadia as parties to the suit.

AMA is the technology leader in aircraft health performance monitoring systems, and holds patents recognizing its innovation in this industry. AMA takes intellectual property matters very seriously.
