TORONTO, Jan 17, 2005 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) --
Temex Resources Corp. (TME, TSX Venture Exchange) (the ``Company``) announced today that it has completed the analysis of till samples collected from the Wilson Lake Diamond Properties and diamond has been identified within a sample. The Properties are located in the Temagami-New Liskeard area of North-eastern Ontario, approximately 50 km south of Contact Diamond`s 95-2, KL-01 and KL-22 kimberlite discoveries.
Highlights
- Temex is the first to report the discovery of diamond in till sample in the area.
- Three kimberlite indicator mineral trains defined by pyrope and eclogitic garnet, Mg-ilmenite, chromite, Cr-diopside and olivine.
- Two well-defined and closely-spaced indicator mineral trains appear to terminate down-ice from a cluster of circular magnetic anomalies
- Perovskite and leucoxene alteration rims on ilmenite and orange-peel textures on pyrope garnet suggest short transport distances from bedrock sources.
Diamond was discovered in a single till sample collected a short distance down-ice from a cluster of magnetic anomalies. It was described by SGS Lakefield Research as a transparent, white octahedron (95% preservation) measuring 0.37 x 0.29 x 0.12 mm and weighing 0.0003 carats. Temex believes that this is the first diamond reported from a till sample in the New Liskeard-Temagami area and that it highlights the potential for diamondiferous kimberlite discovery in the area, particularly on Temex claims.
``The Wilson Lake and Latchford Gold Projects are located on a land package we have been building for some time to ensure that prospective ground was controlled by Temex. Our discovery of diamond in till combined with our portfolio of gold properties highlights the potential of the area. We are encouraged and anxious to explore both projects further. A diamondiferous kimberlite discovery in northern Ontario may have very significant economic advantages over discoveries in the more remote regions of Canada`` said Brian Groves, President and CEO of Temex.
Till Sample Survey Procedure and Results
219 till samples weighing approximately 10 kg each were collected during the summer and fall of 2004 from two claim groups separated by approximately 20 km near the town of Temagami, Ontario. Till samples were collected from hand-dug pits excavated in non-oxidised basal and ablation till. Samples were collected at 150-250 m intervals along traverse lines spaced approximately 2 km apart. Care was taken to avoid samples of esker, glacial outwash or alluvium. Samples were processed and concentrate picked by Overburden Drilling Management, of Ottawa, and SGS Lakefield Research, of Lakefield, Ontario.
Indicator mineral picking results indicate that at least three discrete indicator mineral trains are present on these two claim groups. Two well-defined and closely-spaced indicator mineral trains appear to terminate down-ice of a cluster of circular magnetic anomalies on one claim group.
Indicator mineral trains are defined by high concentrations of Cr-pyrope garnet, Mg-ilmenite and chromite. Some samples in each indicator mineral train contain minor to trace amounts of Cr-diopside, olivine and eclogitic garnet. Mg-ilmenite, chromite, olivine, perovskite and eclogitic garnet identifications were validated by SEM-EDX (scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis) analysis. Electron microprobe analysis of complete indicator mineral suites from selected lines is pending and should be completed by the end of March 2005.
Future Plans
A ground follow-up program is being prepared for the winter and spring of 2005 to better define potential kimberlite targets. This program will include magnetic and electromagnetic surveying and till sampling.
Brett Gold Project
The Company is still awaiting final assays from the recent drilling program on the Brett gold property. Full results will be released upon receipt of all assays.
Temex, a Canadian exploration company, remains focussed on aggressively advancing its gold projects in Ontario, while exploring two diamond projects, Hood River in Nunavut and Wilson Lake in Ontario.
Bruce Jago, Ph.D., P.Geo. supervised all aspects of the Wilson Lake field program. Ian Campbell, P.Geo. and Vice-President, Exploration of Temex, is the designated Qualified Person responsible for all of Temex`s exploration programs as well as the person responsible for the contents of this news release.
