Toyota plans to launch competitively priced Prius hybrid minivans using lithium-ion batteries early in 2011.
The Nikkei business daily reported that the automaker was planning to keep the price of the new Prius model at a level similar to those of current models as it aimed to strengthen its lead in the hybrid market

It said the new Prius minivan would have a spacious interior and lower fuel consumption, probably with three rows of seats for carrying five-seven people.
The company would initially manufacture lithium-ion batteries at its Teiho factory in Aichi prefecture and later planned to produce them at Panasonic EV Energy, a battery joint venture with Panasonic, the Nikkei said.
