Daboss

This is the genisis of my question to Doni.

The Ipod may reflect the threshhold where flash becomes more expensive than HDD. It appears Apple's 8GB uses flash while their higher 80 - 128 GB units still use HDD. Most likely the difference is that the cost of flash crosses the cost of hard drive around 8GB.

There is technology available that employs both flash and hard drives. Hybrids are conventional hard drives but they also use flash memory to enable the operating system to utilize it both as permanent storage and as cache memory. I believe this technology can extend battery life because the rotating hard drive can go into "sleep mode" while flash is engaged.

This technology may also help PC migrate to all flash while extending battery life..
