The MM's do move the share price for the most profit for them. If you are selling they'll drop it a bit more. But conversely, if you are buying they move the price up to make a bit more money.

Too much blame on the MM and not enough blame on the sellers. The seller sets the price with th MM adding the spread. And, that spread is whatever they can get.

Contrary to the opinions expressed by many people, Market Markers rarely build an inventory of shares (except an needed to keep trades happening).
