Sure seems like a lot of well respected posters sure have gone overboard with whatever side of the fence they are on. Don't really know who or what to believe anymore, which only reinforces the notion that you really must do your own DD. Some say NOT's chrome is uneconomic, while some say it is the best in the ROF, etc.
Regarding todays NR, I didn't read into it that we are going to hear about another offer or deal with a 3rd party before the deadline, it simply encouraged people to not tender because there may be another sort of deal down the line... well, pardon me, but as we used to say in 3rd grade, "No duuuuhhhh." From what I can remember all along Mac Watson & Co. never had the vision gradeur of being a miner, the plan was always to sell out. So in that regard, they are saying, "Please don't tender your shares now, we will hopefully get you a better deal in the future." But I wouldn't read that to necessarily be before Nov. 18th.
Common sense seems to tell me that NOT went into this with a keen chance/knowledge the odds were stacked their favor. The notion that this whole thing is orchestrated and will be removed just to bring awareness to the Ring is hogwash in my mind. Anybody on the NOT would surely realize that such a stunt could only hurt them and help FRW.
I also don't think the FWR response and NR's seem desperate by any measure. On the flipside, if you are a shareholder and the most response we were getting from Mac was a blase "Don't worry about it, we are fine and this has no chance" you might be even madder that he wasn't doing all he could do to fight as hard as he could. As a shareholder I would expect it no matter what the odds were for or against me.
I decided to sell about 20% of my FWR today, the first time I have ever sold a ROF stock and just because I am trying to learn sounder money management and to learn how to lock in profits. I am still left with a 1-1 ratio of # shares of FWR and NOT. I just think that the logic that FWR returns to .30 or .35 after a failed bid is sound, and that if the takeover is successful I certainly don't want any more NOT as I am way overloaded and in the red there.
Sorry for my rants, somebody tell me if it makes any sense or no sense. Somebody told me once taking profit is never wrong just sometimes poorly timed.
