Just my opinion, but it could be that people who had previously thought chromite was essentially worthless as a mineral resource are beginning to realise the truly outstanding size and grade of the FWR chromite deposits. Together with the changes in South African law to prohibit export of unsmelted ore, the tripling of their electricity costs and disruptions in their electricity supply, it seems that it will be easier than previously thought to get a part of the world chromite market. Then again, we have seen progress towards the building of a rail line into the ROF area, and heard that Cliffs intends to build a chromite smelter supplied by ore from the ROF.
Since the chromite deposits can be mined with open pit methods and can be cheaply processed onsite to higher grades (although grades of 34%+ are currently sold by others), transport infrastructure and permitting are the main hurdles to clear before production can begin.
Also of course the probability that PGMs found near and within the chromite can add to the value of the deposits may help investors reach an opinion as to the value of FWR assets.
