The 749 amplifies a 148 type chip to fetch & execute 4 instructions in a single
cycle, that is 4 times faster then the ram speed. Those modifications and the Fish/Moore developed instructional set, gave their ingenious microprocessor a way to utilize the high speed capabilities of that variable speed processor in a 336 frame work that we see today in the high performance and low power consumption applications.
IMO the 584 is the Fish/Moore instructional set (above) and the 890 is a stepped up, deluxe variation of the 749. Is the 336 the only really big money patent? In my opinion, the 336 maybe the easiest patent to prove infringement, but there is still plenty of money in the other MMP patents.
In that regard, I believe that will soon see a positive effect in Germany where it is all one patent. Assuming that if we modify a MMP patent in the U S , we will not have to do an equal modification on the other side of the pond.
If KSR and the current interpretation of obviousness had gone into effect just after Ford started producing his model T, his patent or patents might have been invalidated in a re-exam based on an ambiguous KSR policy and hindsight bias.
