Just read the article on stem cell research.Interesting but not impressive.I've been retired from the medical field for almost 3 yrs.and out of touch with recent advances in stem cell research.Up to my retirement hugh progress had been made to that point.In reference to article,treating colon cancer this way may be effective yrs. down the road.From what i know about colon cancer, the best way to detect colon cancer is buy fibropic examination,(looking at the intire colon all the way to the cecum.)If an abnormality is detected a gastrointestinal surgeon should involved quickly or if a polyp is found most can be removed and sent to the lab.Waiting can mean metastatic involvement of the liver.The down side to stem cell is that it won't help every patient,but those that do respond to treatment gone on to lead normal lives.Embryonic stem cell research may have a problem.Stem cell treatment offers patients hope when there is nothing else to be offered by physicians.As a reminder,men and women with a family history of any type of cancer should at least have yearly checkups.I've heard really bad stories from patients who felt something was wrong and didn't consult a physician,buy the time they did it was to late.There are ways to effectively treat colon cancer.I can't get caught up in this research.Hope i didn't bore you guys.GOOD LUCK
