TORONTO, Sept. 22 - Star Navigation Systems Group Ltd. (TSX-V: SNA.V) ("Star" or the "Company"), a leading edge technology company focused on providing Aerospace Solutions to aviation operators worldwide, announces that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ("USPTO") has now completed its reexamination of Aeromechanical Services Ltd.'s (TSX-V: AMA.V) patent U.S. 7,203,630 and clarified that the only point of innovation for the patented invention is its use of conventionally understood email as a format when transmitting data from an aircraft to a ground station. To the extent that AMA's products do not use email to transmit data from aircraft to ground stations or also use other formats, there is an open question whether AMA's products are actually covered by their own patent. However, Star remains confident that AMA's products are covered by Star's patent rights under the earlier granted U.S. 7,113,852, the infringement of which being unaffected by the reexamination of AMA's patent.
Therefore, Star Navigation has already filed an amended complaint in the ongoing patent infringement case in the Northern District of California to resolve the remaining procedural issues raised by AMA and Star looks forward to the Court's consideration of the past and ongoing infringement of Star's patent rights by AMA on the merits.
