Star Navigation Announces Production of Newly Designed SSU

13:11 EDT Thursday, May 14, 2009

TORONTO, May 14 /CNW/ - Star Navigation Systems Group Ltd. (TSX-V: SNA) ("STAR" or the "Company"), a leading edge technology company focused on providing Aerospace Solutions to assist aviation operators worldwide for real-time aircraft monitoring, is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with Luxell Technologies Inc. for the production of the Second Generation Star Server Unit ("SSU"). Utilizing STAR's specifications, the new SSU will be produced with greater functionality and performance, improved integration and reduced weight. It also features significant growth potential to accommodate new applications. It is expected to be market-ready soon, which will allow STAR to broaden its customer base through enhanced features and lower cost.

LUXELL Technologies Inc. is located in a 45,000 square foot building in Mississauga, Ontario, which includes R&D, manufacturing, and test and product support facilities. It is well known in the Aviation and Defence community for its high performance displays and ruggedized computer units.

Dale F. Sparks, STAR CTO stated: "In accordance with our commitment to be an industry leader in real-time aircraft performance monitoring, we have put a significant amount of effort into our technology, particularly over the past two years. We are looking forward to having this new, dynamic, high performance platform available for our system, as it will allow us to take full advantage of our design improvements and additional functionality and it will also provide notable cost and weight benefits to our customers".

STAR's CEO, Viraf Kapadia said: "STAR's licensed IP, together with this state-of-the-art hardware and its reliable Linux platform, will allow Star to assist the airline industry and regulatory authorities with an improved monitoring, processing and reporting capability. This new hardware will also provide an enhanced foundation for our In-flight Safety Monitoring System (ISMS(TM)) and will better accommodate our Fuel Management Information System, FOQA, MOQA, ETOPS and other support systems."

LUXELL's CEO, Jean-Louis Larmor, declared that the company was excited to work with STAR on a system designed for commercial aircraft and helicopter operators. "Having seen STAR technology, products and first applications, LUXELL believes this represents an excellent retrofit opportunity in that domain, and is pleased to be a part of bringing a new generation of on-board servers to the commercial, and potentially military, aviation operators."

Using its patented ISMS(TM) technology, STAR continues to develop new solutions to issues of concern to the aviation industry. STAR's Fuel Management Module is complete, and compliments its fleet and maintenance management functions.
