Hi Mkt Inventor, Your comment ISMS is pro-active, which can pin-point problems before they become major issues is bang on. If I am understanding this correctly and to make this perfectly clear, current technology "the black Box" is physically removed from the plane after each flight. Its then taken to a technician who then has to decode it as the info is not in plain english. Now this technician may have multiple black boxes to check and (this is a guess on my part) probably does not check the black box before the plane takes off again. Correct me anytime if I am in error. So if there was a bird strike while the plane was landing or a tail strike as the plane took off (or many other possibilities) this information may not be available as the black box may still be sitting on a table still not decoded. This is the best example that I can think of that that shows how outdated, how poorly reactive this system actually is. Not only that my understanding of black box technology is that it can only record 30 minutes at a time and then rerecords over the previous data. Now if that is not outdated I don't know what is.
TerraStar not only does what you mentioned in your post, instead of physically removing a blackbox off of a plane it sends any info required in plain english or any language desired to a technician. So not only does it moniter the plane during its entire flight in real time it sends reports wirelessly to the technician after flight. Now if that is not the most modern updated system available using the most up to date technology I don't know what is.
