There's no doubt about it, but you do not hear any of the politicians talking about the heart of the problem which is the skyrocketing national debt. it is possible they can sell off the Fannie/Freddie stuff down the road to private interests and it will work out OK for them. however if they are forced to raise interest rates due to inflation and it ends up in the 8-10% range the debt/service costs will be crushing.
