Western Potash Corp. is seeking to buy treated sewage from the City of Regina for use in the company's proposed Milestone project.

City council documents show the company plans to spend $200 million on a system to pump the treated wastewater from Regina to the proposed $2.4-billion solution mine near Gray, Sask.

The mine, which is slated to begin operations in September 2015, is estimated to require 34 million litres of effluent a day over a 40-year period. Currently, Regina's treated sewage is pumped into Wascana Creek.

Last week, the city's executive committee recommended that council enter into negotiations with Western Potash. Details on how much the company would pay the city would be hammered out in those talks.

The committee notes that new revenue from the sale of treated sewage could result in reduced borrowing, and lower utility and mill rate increases in Regina.

Council is expected to discuss the proposed plan early next week.
