TheQueensland Government’s role in an upcoming mine safety demonstrationin China could be a major financial positive for the State, Ministerfor Natural Resources, Mines and Energy Stephen Robertson said thisweek from Beijing.
“China’s strong interest in improving mine safety has the potential to become a multi-million dollar industry,” he said.
“This project will increase export opportunities for Queensland businesses, and that means jobs.”
InBeijing to attend a briefing on the joint China/Australia mine safetydemonstration project, Robertson said the demonstration aims to exportQueensland’s expertise in mine safety in order to aid one of thebusiest mining countries in the world.
“Queenslandhas a wealth of expertise in providing sophisticated, specialised minesafety equipment, technology, services and training, built over morethan 100 years of mining in our State,” he said.
The demonstration will take place in Xuandong near Beijing, and will be supported by a trade mission at the China Coal and Mining Expo in Beijing in late October.
Theproject will be managed by Queensland Government agency Safety in MinesTesting and Research Station (SIMTARS), and is being funded by theAustralian Government, the Chinese Government and a local Chinesemining company.
