Bluefield,WV - MatrixDesign Group, LLC announced today the partnership agreementbetween JoyMining Machinery and Matrix for development and distributionof aContinuous Miner Proximity Detection system. The agreement givesJoythe right to market, sell, install, and service the proximitydetectionsystem while also taking part in the continual development andrefiningof the system.
“We are very excited to be working with Joy,” said Matrix PresidentAric Pryor. “We have been testing this system in undergroundenvironments since MSHA approval in February 2009. Joy will be criticalin getting these systems into production mines quickly and ensuringthat every installation of the system has the highest level of support.”
Mark Finlay, Vice President, Marketing,Joy Mining Machinery added, “We are confident this partnership willprovide the mining industry with a Proximity Detection system thatpromotes the goal of a zero harm mentality.”
The Continuous Miner Proximity Detection System is an operator trainingdevice that will automatically warn personnel that they are entering anunsafe area (Red Zone) around a continuous miner (CM) and disable tramand boom movement if they enter the CM’s turning radius duringtramming. The system is intended to help miners develop an awareness ofthe Red Zone and instill safe operating practices. Joy and Matrix areworking jointly with the industry to complete detailed design, testingand product risk analysis, before the global launch of the product.
