MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – The Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus will launch civil action against persons named in the potash case as natural persons, BelTA learned from Prosecutor General Alexander Konyuk on 2 April.

According to Alexander Konyuk, they have opened about 15 criminal cases. “It is important that we will bring civil action against natural persons to recover damages instead of organizations. No criminal proceedings will be launched. Everything will be done as civil proceedings. The proceedings will even involve terms like denied profit,” said the Prosecutor General.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus is now preparing several lawsuits to recover material losses. Some lawsuits will be filed in Russia as part of the Russian criminal case against Vladislav Baumgartner. Then some lawsuits will be filed in Belarus. “We are going to at least partially recover the damages the state has sustained. By the way such cases have been sustained in international practice, I’ve talked to the prosecutor general of Russia about it,” noted Alexander Konyuk.

The Belarusian prosecution is getting ready to hand over all the potash case papers against Russian citizens to Russian colleagues. “We will keep only the criminal case concerning our citizens, executives,” said the Prosecutor General.
