BacTech Holds Town Hall Meeting For Proposed Bioleach Plant In
Cobalt Area
====================================...

Toronto, Canada, April 28, 2009 - BacTech Mining Corporation ("BacTech"
or the "Company", TSX.V: BM) reports that it held a public information
session for its proposed tailings reclamation project at the Haileybury
School of Mines ("HSM") in Haileybury, Ontario, this past Thursday,
April 23rd. In attendance from BacTech were Ross Orr, President & CEO,
Dr. Chris Kennedy, Project Assessment and Technology Development, and
Gary Williams, environmental consultant.

The group spoke to an audience in excess of 50 people, including
representatives of various departments of the Ontario government, local
media, students and residents of the area. As previously reported,
BacTech and HSM are collaborating on a bioleaching technician's course
to be offered this Fall at HSM.

Mr. Orr spoke for approximately 30 minutes, followed by general
questions on the project for the remaining 90 minutes. Later that
evening, BacTech presented its story to the local chapter of the
Canadian Institute of Mining. The general response, both written and
verbal, was very positive. BacTech anticipates holding a more formal
session this summer, once further results have been obtained.

The trip also provided an opportunity to evaluate several potential
sites for the proposed bioleach plant in the Township of Coleman, host
to a large number of the historic tailings. In addition, a site visit
to the Castle Mine tailings was completed on the 24th.

BacTech will begin environmental studies in support of the permitting
at the Castle Mine tailings shortly. In addition, it is anticipated
that the Company will begin drilling and sampling of the Castle tails
in June to provide information on the grade and consistency of the
tailings, as well as provide additional material for metallurgical,
bioleach and environmental test work. The initial flotation results
from the Castle Mine tailings were press released on January 26, 2009.

BACTECH PROFILE

BacTech owns patented bacterial oxidation technology for the treatment
of refractory ores and concentrates to enhance the recovery of gold,
silver and base metals. The Company's focus is the acquisition of
equity positions in projects amenable to bioleaching. In June 2008, the
Company signed an agreement to acquire Yamana Gold Inc.'s 33% interest
in two refractory gold deposits in Papua New Guinea. In September 2008,
BacTech signed an MOU to investigate the use of bioleaching to
reprocess arsenic tailings in Cobalt, Ontario. This is the Company's
first foray into the cleantech industry. BacTech is continuing to
evaluate additional remediation projects.
