Barker Updates on its Black Bear Silver/Lead/Gold Project

Prince George, British Columbia CANADA, May 17, 2011 /FSC/ - Barker Minerals Ltd. (BML - TSX Venture), reports it is still awaiting the analytical gold results from the previously announced 2010 two thousand metre trenching program on its silver/gold/lead Black Bear project. (see BM-10-163: http://www.barkerminerals.com/s/NewsReleases.asp?ReportID=423665&_Type=Company-News&_Title=Barker-Begins-Exploration-on-its-Blackbear-SilverGold-Project ; BM-10-168: http://www.barkerminerals.com/s/NewsReleases.asp?ReportID=433860&_Type=Company-News&_Title=Barkers-Trenching-Discovers-Quartz-Vein-Mineralization-in-10-of-12-Target-A... ; and BM-11-176: http://www.barkerminerals.com/s/NewsReleases.asp?ReportID=449644&_Type=Company-News&_Title=Barkers-Trenching-Exposes-High-Grade-Silver-Mineralization-in-10-Target-Are . The 100% owned project on China Mountain is located 74 km northeast of Williams Lake, in the Cariboo region of British Columbia. The project has excellent access and infrastructure nearby. Significant levels of tellurium, up to 700 parts per million, (PPM) were detected in most of the Black Bear samples associated with high silver values. Tellurium can interfere with the fire assay process for gold unless procedures are undertaken to eliminate that potential for interference. In order to report reliable and repeatable results it was determined that the samples should be subject to a roasting process to remove the tellurium from the samples before analyzing for gold by the fire assay method. Results will be reported once received from the lab.

The primary target on the Black Bear project is high grade silver. If gold is determined to exist in economic concentrations associated with the high grade silver mineralization it would be a welcome by-product and only enhance the overall economic potential of the project.

Historic gold assays, from production by the former operators of the Providence Mine on China Mountain, and an independent consultant, ranged from .01 g/t up to 7.6 g/t (.22 troy oz/t)
