The ministry of the Environment and Mines (MEM) has a mandate for formalise informal miners and also to allow exploration companies to do proper exploration in the areas where the informal artisans are currently mining. In addition, in many of the areas of Norther Peru the informal miners are not locals but have moved in there and are causing irreparable damage to the environment.
Newmont recently acquired concessions in the area, Plexmar Resources has been working in the area for several years. There is the failed Tambo grande project and of course the Rio Blanco project that has had many bad relationship problems with locals.
How do you see Canada Gold fitting into this scenario where you are "outsiders" and the government is trying to formalise the mining industry in Northern Peru?
